Leading up to 2010 - Pre-Season Training & Events.
In late July, after some dryland training and an off-season that witnessed Kelly Vanderbeek's marriage to kyaker David Ford, 16 members of the Men's team resumed on-snow training at Coronet Peak in New Zealand.  Both speed and technical teams participated.

The Ladies team followed in August to start their on-snow training. At the New Zealand Winter Games, Britt Janyk opened by winning the SG, followed by Shona Rubens 3rd,  Emily Brydon  4th, Kelly VanderBeek 7th,  Marie-Pierre Préfontaine 8th and Marie-Michèle Gagnon  11th.  Larisa Yurkiw and Victoria Whitney DNF.  The men did not compete in the NZ races.

The results for the GS were  Marie-Michèle Gagnon  1st, Britt Janyk 5th,  Marie-Pier Préfontaine 6th,  Larisa Yurkiw 9th and.Kelly VanderBeek 12th.  Brigitte Acton, Brittany Phelan  and Shona Rubens DNF the first run.  Apparently there were a number of Canadian course workers at the NZ races, who did an outstanding job.

In the SL at the NZ Winter Games, Marie-Michèle Gagnon  placed 2nd, followed by Development Team members Erin Mielzynski 5th, Brittany Phelan 6th and Victoria Whitney 13th.  Due to difficult soft snow and rain conditions, Brigitte Acton , Anna Goodman and Shona Rubens DNF the first run.

The only Canadian Men at the NZ Games were Jean-Philippe Roy and Michael Janyk who DNF the first run. Canadian David Donaldson, of  the University of Vermont, was 5th.

Following NZ, the Men headed for Ottawa for dryland training at the Athlete Conditioning Center, one of the best facilities in the country.

Also in August, the Development team started on-snow training at Zermatt, in preparation fopr the Nor-Am tour and some WC exposure.  Leading the group were JP Hélie, Tyler Nella and Jeffery Frische.

In late August, the Men's tecnhical team returned to New Zealand, while, in early September,  the speed team headed to Chile.  At Portillo, at two FIS GS races,  Robbie Dixon was 2nd , John Kucera 3rd and Manny Osborne-Paradis 5th on the first day and John Kucera, 2nd, Robbie Dixon 4th, and Manny Osborne-Paradis 6th. Erik Guay did not start either race. At the end of September, the Men's Team headed back to more dryland training in Canada.

Meanwhile, back in NZ, the technical team competed in a couple of FIS races.  In the NZ National Championships, Julien Cousineau  started 96th to win the SL with Patrick Biggs 3rd, Micheal Janyl 4th, Ryan Semple 5th, Trevor White 6th, and Brad Spence 11th .  In the GS, Jean Phillippe Roy was 2nd, followed by  Ryan Semple 5th, Julien Cousineau 7th, Patrick Biggs 12 and Brad Spence 14th.  Trevor White was 23rd.

Irene Whitney reports, "The CAST women have been training through October in Sőlden and Pitztal.  A stormy period in Austria has meant some days were not appropriate for on-snow training, but otherwise the camp is going well. The tech WC women have been in Solden while the speed WC women have moved from Sőlden over to Pitztal, where they can train speed. When the storm hit some fo the  tech devo women went to train slalom on hard snow under a dome in Hamburg."  Thanks Irene.

Footnotes:  Both Francois Bourque and Jan Hudec are making comebacks from knee injuries.  Both are training hard and expect to be racing this season.
