Anticipating the 2010 Winter Olympics in Whistler

The Whistler Weasel Workers were christened, many years ago, by Bob Parsons, an early race organizer in Whistler, as he watched a group of race workers boot-packing the Weasel, a steep section on Whistler Mountain's Dave Murray Downhill course.  Well, here we are again, arm in arm, knocking the air out of soft snow.

What's changed over the years, is that our members now come from across Canada, the USA and the World to help prepare for the 2010 Olympics.  For success in 2010, we need an experienced core team of volunteers who know their jobs, know the "hill" and who work well together.  We have two separate downhill tracks to prepare, a Men's course and a brand new Women's course.  We will have new equipment and new procedures.  There will be a lot to learn!

In 2006 and 2007, we expanded our team of local volunteers to include many race workers from across Canada and the USA.  For 2008, we need to double our numbers.  We need all of our existing volunteers to return in 2008, each with one new volunteer!  For 2010, we expect to need three times our 2007 crew and the more who are trained and experienced, the better.  We especially need Crew Chiefs, who will learn to be be our "on hill" managers and trainers.  See "Opportunities in 2008".
