Weasel Personals

The Whistler Weasel Workers are volunteer ski race workers dedicated to the advancement of alpine ski racing in Whistler and throughout Canada. Over the years, Weasels have worked on Olympic, World Championship, World Cup, NorAm and National Championship ski races in Whistler, Nakiska, Salt Lake, Bormio, Beaver Creek, Lake Louise, Sierra Nevada, and elsewhere.

In February and March, 2010, we look forward to welcoming many new members to our Weasel House, as Games Time alpine race workers descend on Whistler. By long tradition, all alpine race workers that work on senior races in Whistler are considered to be Whistler Weasel Workers. We hope all newcomers to the alpine race crew will join the camaraderie and good fellowship of Weasel House. Newcomers are invited to sign up for our newsletter and keep abreast with what's happening at Weasel House..

Browse through our Web site to learn about our activities, our history, and upcoming events. With time, we hope to gather stories and photos from many similar groups engaged in ski racing throughout the world. Follow the activity of the Canadian Alpine Ski Team on the World Cup and Nor-Am ski racing circuits.

The Weasels participate in alpine ski races by erecting safety nets, by helping to prepare the track surface, by erecting start and finish areas and by performing other tasks required to set up and run a senior ski race. Our slippers and course crew maintain the courses during race events and our gate judges help with the running of events. Some of our members also act as race officials, while others erect, run and maintain timing systems, help run the Race Office, and work to sustain our crews by preparing lunches and running the Beer Tent. The tradtional Weasel Beer Tent always accompanies Weasel-supported ski race events. In February / March 2010, Weasel House will raise hospitality for alpine ski race workers to a new level. To mark this special occasion, the Weasels are offering a very special line of Weasel Wear. Please help this effort to succeed and support Weasel House.

The Whistler Weasel Workers have participated in many events leading to February / March 2010. From 2006 to 2008, the Pontiac GMC Canadian Alpine Ski Championships were held in Whistler. In 2008 the Weasels were also engaged in the Telus Whistler World Cup and in qualifying races for Canadian youth wishing to represent Canada at the World Junior Championships. In 2009, there were the Canadian Junior (J1) National Championships, held on the Dave Murray men's track and an International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Disabled Alpine Skiing World Cup, held on Franz's women's track. The Weasels also turned out to set up saftey systems to help the Canadian Alpine Ski Team train on the two Olympic Downhill Courses, important steps to "Owing the Podium".

These recent ski races have allowed us to help build and hone the team before heading into February 2010. We have welcomed course workers from across Canada, the USA, Australia, New Zealand and many counties in Europe. In each of the last few years, many volunteer course workers have travelled from afar to join us and, by virtue of their participation, to become Whistler Weasel Workers.

Since about 2000, a crew of Weasels have travelled each year to Lake Louise, to work on the annual Winterstart World Cup downhill in December. Also in recent years, Weasels have assisted with the FIS World Championships in Val d’Isere and in Bormio, as well as with World Cup races in Beaver Creek.

Whistler Weasel Workers expect to work long days, to have fun, and to make many good friends.
