The Race Organizing Committee (ROC) attempts to provide accommodation for visiting volunteer race workers while they are working on our races.
Volunteer accommodation is provided in both private homes, by our “Volunteer Hosts”, and in various commercial lodges and hotels. In most cases, two or more volunteers share a room.
The 2008 races, being in February and in Whistler's 'busy season', and spanning almost a month, present significant challenges. We will be heavily dependent on private "homestay" accommodation this year and "Volunteer Hosts" who are not Weasel Workers themselves. We had a number of Volunteer Hosts last year, but significantly more will be needed in 2008.
For February 2008, watch for all event-specific accommodation information on the Whistler Alpine Event Volunteers Web site.
We have a great need for "homestay" beds for our volunteers. If you can provide a bed for one of our volunteer course workers, or if you know someone who can, please check the Homestay Web site. or email dsavage@telus.net
We Do Our Best!
We attempt to provide ladies–only rooms and private accommodation for couples who can share a bed. In assigning accommodation, we try to take into account travelling groups and work crews that wish to lodge together. However, we have very limited resources and our priority must be to accommodate all comers. Sometimes we just can’t pair friends and crew-mates together Sorry!
Accommodation Needs
Following Registration , you should be contacted by your Crew Chief to confirm your intended visit dates. At this time, make sure your Crew Chief understands your accommodation plans and the dates on which you might need help with accommodation. These dates sometimes start a day before or extend a day after your work dates. Volunteers who fly to Vancouver (YVR) generally arrive in Whistler on the day before their first work date while “local” volunteers generally arrive on their first work date. Similarly, locals usually depart on their last work date while those from further away may leave the following morning. Make sure you get your accommodation dates and work dates right.
Travel Plans
When we are able to “pencil you
in” to a bed, you will be asked about your travel plans. We
may not be able to confirm
your accommodation until you can advise us of firm
plans. It costs us dearly when people shift their
dates by a day or so and don't tell us until 'the last
minute'. Let’s get it right as early as we can.
Vehicle Space for Others
Please tell us about space you might have in your car to help other volunteers get around Whistler. We try to co-ordinate local transportation for all Volunteers, therefore we need to know which volunteers need rides, which volunteers have rides with other volunteers, and where and when we need to provide vans and drivers.
Please Follow the Plan
You will be advised of your accommodation by email, probably in a Microsoft EXCEL spreadsheet attachment. Please use the room allotted to you. Do not change rooms to be with your friend just because there happens to be an empty bed. Only change after clearing it with the Accommodation Manager. If you do not use your allotted room and it results in additional cost for the ROC, these costs may be charged to you!
If you don’t have email or you cannot open an EXCEL spreadsheet, let us know and we’ll find a another solution.
