7, 2009 - John
(JT) Townsend breaks Leg
More
bad news. Crew Chief John (JT) Townsend is reported to have
broken
his tibia quite badly, while preparing for the annual Peak to Valley
race. We
wish you a speedy recovery, John. We understand that John was
skiing on a pair of ladies skis and they were a little more than he
could handle. John has been recently sighted gimping around
Dusty's soaking up his medicine and looking for sympathy. Get
well soon, JT.
Feb 2, 2009 - Valarie Ward breaks Hip
Joy Fera reports that her sister, Valerie Ward,
had unplanned surgery at the Cranbrook Hospital Saturday night, to
repair/replace a broken ball at the top of the femur. She was getting
off the lift at the Fernie Ski Hill, when her 300 lb student’s ski
trapped Valerie’s under hers. As it was a sheet of ice down the off
ramp Val hit with major impact! Good thing she was wearing a
helmet!
She has the same surgeon that repaired her back exactly a year and a half ago. We anticipate she will R&R in Delta with us for three months.
Thanks for your prayers for a speedier recovery. Joy.

Jan 10, 2009 - "McCutch" is Back!
John
McCutcheon is back. What happy and wonderful
news this is!
McCutch, who has worked with the Weasel Workers for more years than
anyone can remember (he’s not
older than dirt but some say he is close) has
not been able to work with us for a number of years. In past
years, he has been a Crew Chief, and a Coordinator extraordinaire
. He was significant in the Calgary Olympics, ensuring the
course was well prepared.
For 2010, John will be working with and hopefully helping to train Dave
Ooooossser as "associate
deputy assistant chief of course". This is the
job Gary Taylor has done so ably for the past 100 years.
John and Dave will be the people who ensure the jobs defined by the FIS
Director (Helmuth or Gunter) to the Chief of Course are clearly
understood and noted, and then transferred to the Coordinator to be
assigned to crews. They then circulate the course as the eyes
of the Coordinator to ensure the FIS Director's instructions are being
carried out as requested. These folks (McCutch and Oser) will be key to
ensuring that jobs are done only once.
Welcome back John. We are fortunate beyond words to have you
back with us. See the interview with John McCutcheon, in Ken
Hicks' 1993 Whistler World Cup video
NOV 19,
2008 - Thommy
T is a Grandfather
We have just learned that Thom Theys became a granfatrher (with the
help of his daughter, about 5 months ago. Thom, and his
better
half, Lauren Williams (the original Beaver Creek Soup lady) think their
grandson is quite acceptable. Were pleased to say that Thom
and
Lauren will be back with us in 2009. Thom has been very
active with the Team
44 Course Crew organization that grew out of the Salt Lake
Olympics. At Whistler, Thom has been working as Crew Chief on
the Franz's women's Olympic Downhill course and Lauren has been working
both as course crew and in the Soup Tent.

Sad Passing
The
Whistler Weasel Workers wish to
extend
their heart-felt condolences to Dave Oser and his family on the sudden
passing
of Dave’s Mother, Sandy. Dave’s many friends among
the Weasels wish
to extend whatever support they can, and to join Dave in a celebration
of Sandy’s life.
From Dave Oser, "My Mom was the most selfless people you could ever meet. If she had met you guys, as she did with some of you already, she would have given you one of her world renowned hugs, one you would never forget. She knew how important you guys are all to me so that made you important to her to. We love her and we’ll miss her very much.”
"I’m totally overwhelmed but the incredible support we received from the Weasel organization and it means more to me than you can imagine"
From John Benbow, "Sandy Oser was so much like my Mom that I called her “MOM”. She had an infectious laugh, a hug to love and an ora that just made you feel good. I will truly miss Sandy."
