Useful Tips for Weasel Workers


  • False StartDress in layers;
  • Bring an extra set of mitts, gloves;
  • Always carry food and water with you, stay hydrated;
  • If you get separated from your crew, look for another crew chief  or section chief – they have a radio and they will be able to locate your crew chief;
  • If you do not feel comfortable doing something or skiing somewhere – DON’T. Your safety is of utmost importance.  Do Not Compromise Your Safety, YOU ARE NUMBER ONE!!
  • Try to remember to always look around and ask what can be taken up the mountain or brought down as you are cycling around the mountain;
  • Always grab a race start list on race days and follow along while the race is happening;
  • If you aren’t sure about how to do something ask your crew chief or your mentor.  It is their responsibility to ensure you understand your jobs.
  • Don't overtire yourself on your first few days.  You're there for the long haul.  If you need a break, tell your Crew Chief and visit the Warming Tent.  If you need to "call it a day", do so.

What if???


  • You get “pulled” from a job??
    Remember that your safety is being considered.  You are a volunteer and being injured is not acceptable.  Your Crew Chief or other person has made a decision for your safety and the safety of others.    Don't be upset or offended.   
  • Someone yells “course
    Look up the hill and move off the course fast.
  • You get  "lost"
    Ask any  Section Chief or Crew Chief with a radio, or check in at the Equipment trainler or Warming Tent.

Where to get more information

We are trying to improve communication methods and increase the information you as a volunteer will receive.  Some ways for you to get more information is to:
  • Talk to a Volunteer Coordinator;
  • Look on the white message board;
  • Crew chiefs and Section Chiefs– these folks get briefed everyday and have access to radios;
  • Ask a mentor or any veteran.
  • Ask a Training Subcommittee members.
